WHY IT IS IMPORTANT FOR FATHERS TO GET MATERNITY LEAVE
While maternity leave is a common topic in the news these days but unfortunately dads and maternity is always considered as two sides of a coin, however recently in Pakistan, the Federal Minister for Human Rights approved an extension in the leave from seven days to ten days for fathers making this least noticeable issue an important one and amended the law .
Paternity Leave is provided under Revised Leave Rules, 1981 in the Punjab province. Under the law, new fathers were granted a maximum seven days of paternity leave but this was not mentioned that the leave would be paid or not. Now the law has been amended and the good news is that the fathers can have 10 days leave with full payment and they can avail this twice during the entire service period. This is a nice step taken by the Government.
Now men are becoming more concerned about getting this leave as they find this period the most valuable time they can give to benefit their family.
Let’s take a look into why it is important for fathers to have a maternity leave.

.A research shoes that, kids who share regular play times with their father develops more advanced vocabularies by the age of 3 than those who played only with mothers.
.Father’s leave is also important for the mother as, according to a study, having a partner at home boosts mothers hormonal levels, stimulating breast milk production.
.The time the father will spend with the kid during the early days, gives them the feeling of satisfaction, fulfilment and overall well being.
. According to a recent study, the kids whose father’s stay with them in the early days, grows up to become more social and have higher IQ levels.
.Father’s leave gives mother a short break and help in lightening the work load, after long wake up nights, diaper changes etc, which are extreme fatigue and exhaustion for mothers.
.Later on, these good parenting norms are shifted to the child who can understand equal roles of father and mother in parenting.
