The Government’s Provincial Transport Authority, Punjab has stated Uber, Careem and other ride-providing services as illegal.
With this regards, a notification was given to Lahore’s chief Traffic Officer to not allow these services to work on Lahore’s roads.
Though, it is still not clear whether the ban is only valid in Lahore or other cities are too a part of this order in Punjab.
Details about the Notice
The notice states that Careem, Uber and A-One Taxi do not have criterion fitness certificate and permits for route transport services which is creating big losses to Punjab government.
The notice also mentions that because private cars are being used for transportation facilities, they should not be used for commercial ways. They are affecting and violating local rules and are also posing security issues for people.
Per notification, the traffic officers of the field have been forwarded to make sure that immediate action is taken for these unlawful services and that they are not permitted to function in the city.
Uber and Careem have been contacted for their views, but their response is still awaited.
