Twitter has decided to increase the overall integrity of the platform by updating a part of its reporting process allowing users to specify the reason you reporting the Tweet for. The new feature let users to report Tweets coming from fake accounts or bots by clicking on the “it’s suspicious or spam” option under the report menu.
The users will also have to cite the reason that why they think that the particular Tweet is coming from a fake or spam account. This change will help improve and strengthen the reporting process of the microblogging platform.
The new feature has been rolled out for both the web and mobile version of the Twitter. However, Twitter has not revealed yet what will the platform do with the reported accounts; either they will get banned or warned after being reported.
A Spokesperson from Twitter said,
The new reporting flow will allow us to collect more detailed information so we can identify and remove spam more effectively. With more details to review, we’ll be adding more resources to our review processes.
This is not the first time that Twitter has started taking action against fake accounts and bots. Earlier this year in May and June, Twitter suspended around 70 million accounts for violating the policies and exhibiting malicious behaviour. Furthermore, this year in July major influencers across the world and social media celebrities lost thousands of followers when Twitter took down millions of locked accounts.
