Sindh cabinet has approved the bill aimed at protecting women from workplace harassment.
On 16th October, The ‘Sindh Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2018’ was approved by the provincial cabinet. The meeting was chaired by Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah and attended by other members of Sindh cabinet. The bill was sent to the CM’s advisor to check the clauses and forward it to the assembly for approval. The bill is aimed to provide protection to women against harassment at their workplaces. More than that, it is also meant to address their issues through legal channels.
Staring & Winking is a criminal offense
Secretary Women Development department Baqaullah Unar highlighted the salient features of the bill to the cabinet and the PM. As per the approved act, staring at women in the workplace, winking, sending inappropriate text messages, assaulting, calling names are now to be declared a criminal offense.
