INSPIRING TALE OF A PAKISTANI FASTEST FEMALE ATHELETE; THE DAUGHTER OF AN IMAM SAHIB
Women in sports are always inspiring. They are real stars and icon of the country. These sports women are the real inspiration for other women to follow suite and able to me more independent, confident and productive.
Pakistan has a lot of talent and in today’s world women are exceeding in everything they do. Whether they are in the field of medicine, law, bike riding or in sports they are always on the top, making themselves, their families and their nation proud. The best qualities such great women possess and which makes them the best of the rest are; a lot of self-confidence, immense grit, strong will, exceptional game and the desire to be the best.
One such story is of our very own Shaib –e- Asra, she is the fastest female athlete of Pakistan and we are so proud of her. She is a daughter of imam sahib. Frankly speaking, when this news came of Asra being the daughter of the imam of masjid, many people were amazed because in our society it’s unusual and against the conventional image of the daughter of imam and his lifestyle. It is really a step forward for all to break such stereotypic thinking and should move forward and support such girls and their families to come forward and show their talent and become the inspiration of so many girls who are waiting for their right time to come.
Asra is an inhabitant of Faisalabad and she is running athlete since her school days. She then took part at the state and the district level. She won a gold medal in November 2018 at the National Athletics Championship. Asra was a gold medalist before she started her professional career as a sprinter.
On success of her victory, she told with confidence that her father is her support system. He withstood with her at every step she has taken and he acted like armor for her to not let the talk of society damage her daughter’s passion.
Asra’s father was informed by her teacher about her passion and talent as a sprinter and he became really happy and soon after that he stood by her and supported her in her decision of considering it as a profession.
Both Asra and her father are in a view that athletes in our country are not getting what they actually deserve and that there are very less facilities for them. Famous athletes are really valued by companies and sponsors because they encourage many people to especially youth to follow their respective sport but in Pakistan we lack sponsorships, encouragement, lack of facilities and resources. The need of the hour is to encourage such talent and let go the politics and stereotypic thinking out of sports.
We should take lesson from this father and daughter duo that the encouragement and involvement of parents in the child’s passion can lead a child to such glorifying level. We should push the government to spend money in sports to make more world class facilities for kids.
