In 2000, an international definition of overweight and obesity in childhood was proposed to help calculate internationally comparable prevalence rate of overweight and obesity in children. The definition interprets “overweight and obesity in terms of reference points for body mass index BMI in KG per metre square by age and sex, and is linked to widely used adult overweight cut off point of 25 and adult obesity cut off point of 30″.
In 2004 a survey was conducted in U.K which results interpret the fact that 14 percent of boys and 70 percent of girls Age between 2 to 15 years were overweight.
Most imaginable cause behind growing obesity in children is that, change in food preference i.e. more likely children prefer junk food and no or less physical activity in their daily routine 🙁
Different studies conducted in U.K supports the fact that, if child started to overweight then that excess fat started to grow with him until he grow as an adult and obesity has direct relationship with the development of type 2 diabetes, high blood, pressure, heart disease like stroke atherosclerosis etc many different type of cancers and disorders. :'(
It is strongly advised that a good balanced diet providing all the necessary nutrients for growth should include in a diet of children, at least five parts of fruits and vegetable a day should be a part of healthy children’s platter.
Nutrient rich eating is not only necessary to control weight but also plays an important part in decreasing the risk of different heart related issues like stroke, atherosclerosis, embolism.. 🙁
It is now in many areas of UK for children age for 2-7 years each state to be provided with a piece of fruits during school break time for free as it will motivate children and their parents to understand importance of fruits and veges in young growing age <3
