ByteDance’s teen-focused short video app TikTok has surpassed Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Instagram in the number of downloads last month. According to the stats from app intelligence firm Sensor Tower, TikTok’s downloads were higher than other social media apps including Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and YouTube in the U.S. in September. The firm says on September 29, it overshadowed four other social apps in terms of daily installs with 29.7 percent of the downloads from this cohort of apps. TikTok’s U.S. installs grew up to 237 percent from 1.13 million in October 2017.
Founded in 2014, by Alex Zhu and Luyu Yang, musical.ly is a short video social platform for creating, sharing and exploring short videos. Every day, the app is being used millions of teenagers to express themselves through singing, dancing, and lip-syncing. The app also offers live broadcasting.
Many people from all across the globe create and share their videos through this entertaining platform. Some are doing short videos on makeup, skin care while the majority of the other people are showing their talents in lip sync. By seeing its increased popularity it is anticipated that this network will grow more and will give a tough competition to other Social Apps.
A few months back, the company ByteDance’s merged Musical.ly with its short video App TikTok. After that, the video platform grew rapidly.
In September, TikTok’s number of downloads grew around 31 percent from August to hit approximately 3.81 million on the App Store and Google Play combined. This surpassed Facebook, which had 3.53 million first-time installs.
