Volkswagen is giving a new high to its relationship with Apple on VW- Car-Net app as iOS users can now lock and unlock their car using Siri. Apple users can also check estimated fuel mileage of the car or remaining battery, set a geofence, enable alarms, and access diagnostics remotely.
Using Siri, Volkswagen owners can start and stop a power charging for their electric car or turn on the defroster. The users can also set a specific temperature and navigate their car parking anywhere. However, Cart-Net app is not available in free to all VW owners, it costs a specific subscription fee per month, around $18 per month. Apple introduced Siri Shortcuts with iOS 12, which are needed for new Volkswagen functionality.
On the other hand, Both CarPlay and Android Auto are finally making it into new cars and gaining so much popularity. Amazon has been constantly working to integrate its Alexa assistant into electric cars, the Echo Auto has also been released which would bring the assistant into cars. The company’s also joint hands with carmakers directly, including like Ford, to install the assistant in cars.
