The company managed to sell $10 billion worth of products in just within an hour and various products surpassed the USD 1.44 billion sales threshold within the first two minutes and five seconds after the e-commerce giant kicked off the sale.
Lots of big brands were featured in the sale included Apple and Xiaomi. Other brands and e-commerce businesses like JD.com, Mogujie, and VipShop also bagged heavy sales on the Singles Day.
People from all across the world like Los Angeles, Tokyo and Frankfurt placed their orders online ranging from diapers to mobiles. Some users also reported that website and app of the e-commerce giant crashed just when the clock stuck 12:01am.
It lseems like Jack Ma’s e-commerce giant is paving its way to toppling its own record from last year. By 9:32 am on Sunday, the company had managed to gather orders worth $18.8 billion, which were at $14.7 billion at the same point in 2017.
According to some details, Jack Ma, the CEO of Alibaba Group attended the premiere night along with other stars and celebrities for the countdown to the Global Shopping Festival 11.11.
November 11 is being celebrated since 2009 when only 27 merchants participated in the global sale event. The festival was started with an aim to spread awareness about the value of online shopping among both retailer companies and consumers. The CEO Alibaba is also using the festival to test the limits of its cloud computing, delivery, and payment methods, artificial intelligence, augmented reality as well as try out new business approaches in the e-commerce world.
